yes, but does this not mean the evil Gremio play Libertadores next year?

Yes. And, because of that, with a points total that would mean
relegation in the previous FIVE seasons, the evil Flamengo will play
Copa Sudamericana next season.

Just another day at the office for those who don't really have to earn anything.

Goiás was brave. I didn't expect them to put much of a fight after
going 1-3 down so early. Some freak goals, but still.

Smaller clubs don't get any breaks in decisions against big clubs. That's when the jersey you are wearing really counts - even if Goiás were up to the occasion, except for the 1st half.

Goiás should be proud of what they did, but proud doesn't help a lot in their situation. Relegated, with no prospect of being in such a big game anytime soon.

[Gee, even their missed PK hit the post.]

SporTV kept showing Gremio fans celebrating Independiente's goals and
cheering them on. After the last penalty it was really as if Gremio
itself had won the tournament. While I can easily understand them, I
wonder however how Goiás fans felt with such coverage. We know that
happens but it was unusual to see that on TV after all.

That was bad form by SporTV. Granted, this was an unprecedented situation: if Goiás had won, we'd have two teams rightfully earning a Libertadores' spot, but only one of them would actually get the spot.

That said, one can wonder whether SporTV would have done the same thing if the situation were reversed (or if a media-protected big club were in Goiás' place). I highly doubt it.
