I was commenting in the Venezuelan football mail list my perception
that people from Galicia do root mostly for Real Madrid and remembered
as one of the causes the presence in the Merengues of Amancio Amaro,
one of the best, if not the best gallego player in history, who played
for Real Madrid in the 60's, winning 9 ligas, 1 Club Eurocup, 3
Spanish cups and twice Pichichi.
Do you remember any other outstanding gallego players in Real
Madrid ?
In Real Madrid, I don't, but the huge number of players that have gone
through that club is a problem... and yes,the most famous one is by
far Luisito Suárez, followed by Amancio and Fran. Galicia is *very*
rural (and was so much more until quite recently), so it has produced
fewer great players than nations of comparable size and population --
Basque country, for example.
