RSS Clash of the Countries

Three days before the first match, that will be payed Tuesday (if I will be
able, of course). Basically, before Tuesday you have to submit a team***
(Jussi, you have to submit the roster as well). Games in ESMS are off-line,
the manager gives all his commands before the game through the team***,
and sees the results after it ends. You'll be able to change the team***
before each match.

How do you write a team***? Here you will find the complete manual of
ESMS (esms_user_manual.html):
http://www.drop.io/rssclash

Anyway, I'll sum up the basics.

First, you have to specify a tactic:
- N = normal
- D = defensive
- A = attacking
- P = passing
- C = counter attack
- L = long ball

Then, a list of 11 starting + 7 bench players. For each of them, you have
to specify the position:
- GK = goalkeeper
- DF = defender
- DM = defensive midfielder
- MF = midfielder
- AM = attacking midfielder
- FW = forward
For any player that is not a GK, you also have to specify a side:
- R = right
- L = left
- C = center
E.g. DFR is a right defender, FWC is a central forward.

You can also specify a penalty taker and assign orders, to perform a given
action (change the tactic, change the position of a player, substitute a
player) given a condition (minute, score, yellow/red card, injury). But,
about this, see the manual.

FAQ

Q. Is there any difference between ESMS and the real football?
A. A lot, of course. The most striking one, IMHO, is that in ESMS
midfielders don't play to cut opponents' actions, but only to build their
own team's one; good defenders (and defensive midfielders), OTOH, lower not
only opponents' shots, but also their passes. Anyway, this doesn't mean
that you have to put players outside of their natural positions, because I
will convert e.g. any midfielder (unless he is a defensive or attacking
one) to a player with more passing than tackling or shooting; what changes
is what you have to expect from the match, e.g. if you play with a lot of
midfielders expect a lot of actions for you, but also against you.

Q. Example of a team***, please.

Q. What about substitutions? Are they automatic or manual?
A. "The game engine itself performs automatic substitutions in certain
occasions - when someone gets injured for instance - to replace the injured
player with a substitute player from the bench." But you can also order a
substitution.

Please ask me any question you want (only about this tournament...).
