So, how many countries outside of the EU actually qualify for the Lac
Zed criteria? Brazil and Argentina for sure, but probably very few
others. Possible candidates are: Uruguay, Serbia, Croatia, maybe some
of the African countries with large representations in the French
league. Very few others.
Hmmm... Russia?
Ivan Saenko, 1.FC Nürnberg, 8 starts, 4 sub-ins (0 goals, had
a very poor season so far)
Victor Boudianski, Udinese... just 1 start this season
Alexandr Kershakov, Sevilla... 3 starts, 5 sub-ins
Alexej Smertin, Fulham... 9 starts, 2 goals
OK that's probably it. Failed the criteria. Same thing
for Ukraine, beyond Shevchenko and Voronin - nothing.
MH didn't realize it at the time (or probably
he did), but his criteria were incredibly harsh.
Yep.
Ciao,
Werner
P.S. Thinking about the challenge, I'm surprised
Austria (I know, a EU country) might actually be
able to crack it - Scharner (Wigan), Pogatetz (Boro),
Manninger (Siena), Garics (Napoli), Weissenberger
(Frankfurt), the last two being borderline candidates.
