Anyway, truth is, I for some reason temporarily forgot you were an English supporter. I'm not sure why, but you probably tend to confuse me with your being omnipresent, you know...
Shintaro, you forgot I was British? Man, that's a bad memory you have
there for a writer, because I only mention it only every 5 minutes.
Of course, women never forget anything, so...
I guess I thought (_temporarily_) you were Brasillian-American or such. Or I didn't think anything, maybe.
Being English and living in Florida and talking about the beach and constantly mentioning the Catholics and talking about American thingies, it's just confusing as hell, you have to understand. My brain is two-bit, and what is worse, erratic as well.
It's not so much about memory, I can get confused pretty easily.
Oh, that was a quintessential English game that I've been speaking of, though.
I understand the "fighting" aspect is rather important for the English fans. I guess it just isn't much so for me. I'm too used to seeing the teams I support play like cellphones stuck up in their holes for 90 minutes, both on the national team and club level. I'm numb in that aspect.
That would be a good description of Japan's performance in WC 2006.
Alas.
No kidding.
And well expected. I expected Brasil and Australia to advance, not just because I wanted to pretend to be objective. I just was objective.
They constantly conceded goals in the last minutes over and over again in friendlies and other matches, often outshot by Asian teams like Oman, but somehow luck was always on their side and ended up dominating in Asia, and generally having reasonably good games against Europeans unlike your typical Asian teams. I think I mentioned "Zico's luck" more than twice on this group in the past. Started believing they were the Italy of AFC (not to say Italy are such a lucky team, mind you), and you can guess how far that kind of team can go in the World Cup.
The 2-2 game against Germany was actually a warning, but people didn't see it as such. They conceded two goals in the span of 15 minutes like avalanche had just hit them, the usual pattern, and guess what happened against Australia and Brasil. And for some strange reason they believed Japan were good with heat. Utter bollocks, as was proven. Their tactics against Australia was, let the Aussies do whatever they like in the first half, they will get tired, and we will kill them in the second half. Oops, whose feet stopped dead first?
The concept of conditioning and even tactics was out the window under Zico, a silly reaction to his predecessor's extreme tactics-uber-alles. I'll say no more, as I absolutely love Zico as a footballer. He doesn't deserve to be abused by crap nobody like me.
Any idea who will take over from Zico?
Osim, who coached Yugoslavia in 1990 WC. He's been coaching in the J-League for three years now and possibly anti-Zico all along when it comes to the way the national team was being handled. He is one heck of a coach, although he spied a bit on us for Croatia this time around (which apparently didn't make any difference as Croatia were equally crap anyway). ;)

Yes, again, I forgot you were English.
And German. And Scots. And Austrian. And now American. And, well a
femme du monde.
You just played "We Are the World" inside my head at full volume now.
