According to the newspapers today apparently Sporting's latest teenage
sensation is already in the shopping list of the 4 big clubs for the
Summer. Sporting is trying to extend his contract untill 2010 and up
the buyout clause to 50 million, he presently is under contract until
June 2008 with a 20 million buyout clause.
The kid is having a good debut season, he isn't always in the starting
XI but since late October he's played in the vast majority of
Sporting's games either starting or coming of the bench and he's scored
goals and important assists.
While I've often compared him with Quaresma at the same age he is
dissimilar from Porto's winger, Nani is more of a playmaker but has
mostly played closer to the wings, he's not flashy or dazzlingly fast
like Quaresma or Ronaldo but technically very evolved and fearless even
in the big games, he's still a bit selfish with the ball but he's
coming along. His greatest qualities IMHO are his vision, passing and
technique, his assist Vs Porto on Wednesday a good example of how
smooth his passing is as he found Liedson in the box without so much as
looking at him he placed the ball right on the Brazilian's head for the
goal.
I hope he stays put, if he keeps playing regularly and evolving within
2 years he can be quite a player, all he needs is playing minutes on
his legs and above an enviroment that gives him stability, peace and
quiet to work on improving his craft without career distractions.
