Do you have a source for an assertion along these lines (they certainly
don't say 1G=5S, maybe 3G=5S, but not 1).
I meant to say, the IOC says total golds, then total silver, then total
bronze decide the official standings. See www.olympics.org. I did not
mean to say 5 silvers equal 1 gold.
