Hibernian v Heart of Midlothian
Gretna v Hamilton Academical or Dundee
Assuming Hearts win (far from a given), and stay second in the SPL,
does this mean one of the other three gets a place in Europe.
My understanding is that there will be two Champions' League places
next season, so if Hearts finish second and win the Cup the beaten
finalists will enter the UEFA Cup.
Maybe not...

That is interesting. Not sure if it is a good idea as it further devalues the cup competitions. eg. right now Arminia Bielefeld and Eintracht Frankfurt will be meeting in a semifinal of the German cup knowing that there is an excellent chance that winning this SF will get them into the UEFA cup (the other SF is Bayern vs. a minnow - St. Pauli maybe ?). This makes the match really exciting for both teams and their
fans.
On the other hand,it will indeed enhance the quality of the overall representation in the UEFA cup - no Millwalls, Aachens etc.
