I see nothing wrong with that at all. If a child has a deep
abiding interest in something, parents and teachers can
take advantage of that to really motivate that child in
many things. That is the purpose of Sports. It pairs children
with mentors, and wonderful things are accomplished.
On the other hand, if a rink becomes the target of private
investors, and they try to dominate the program for the
sake of their own friends and family, then they should
go and build their own private rink where they can do as
they please. Our rink here, is a product of those two
issues .. investors and private interests .. and it is becoming
a real challenge to maintain the "public sessions" where
we are allowed to skate without becoming the targets
of these motivated interests. That stupid "spotting rig"
is going to cause a crack-down on our skating, but I'll
guarantee that the "boyfriends" will protect the culprits.
Gosh! You'd think this sort of politics would stay out
of Figure Skating .. wouldn't you :-) I just hope the Juniors
of this world can find their way too. It is just skating.
