Sooner or later the *all* refs will get onto his weeknesses like they
did Baxter, and then he'll have the double bagage of being both weaker
and being known to be weaker (which means the refs are looking for a
problem, even when one doesn't exist - think Joubert).
But I guess the Boks will carry him while ever they continuing
winning.

You may be correct but he is improving. He only got the TH job less
than a year ago and he has come on well.
He will never be a great TH but he is a great captain.
All we need from is adequate and he makes up for it in spades in the
captaincy dept
The Boks cannot beat NZ with Smit at TH. Did you see Victor and
Bakkies' expressions when he got popped out of a scrum like a
champagne bottle? But even though Mallett did it to Teichmann and
Markgraaff to Pienaar and the old Broederbond to Felix du Plessis, PdV
is not going to axe the most beloved man in SA rugby. They'd rather
lose the TN - and they will - unless Smit falls on his sword. Sore
hamstring should do it and then blood a captain for WC 2011. But who
to replace him? He's not adequate when he gives penalties away and the
effect on the tight 5 is additive - they begin to fear scrumming. no
good. And game plan? Kicking where? Down throats of willing runners or
out on the full? Boks were exposed today and I am not counting my
breath until Hamilton. PdV and JS can retire together. JS is such a
decent honorable man that he is probably thinking the same right now.
Well plyed, Australia, you did yourselves proud.
