So its a combo of GoggleGroups and OE that causes the thread to go
tits up?
Did anyone manage to diagnose why this is so?

*Google groups uses a weird format called 'quoted printable', that has
no
standard established on how newsreaders should handle it, i.e. whether
they
should alter it or leave it alone when replying. OE leaves it alone.

*Unfortunately google, and deja vu before that, are half baked web
interfaces that screw Usenet.

Thunderbird, 40titude Dialog seem to handle it fine but I take your
point.

If there was another web based Usenet service that carried rsru and
rsc then I would be happy to switch.
But no NNTP because I cannot (understandably) access it at work.

Come to think of it, NNTP etc. was brought out in the days of close to
zero bandwidth so downloading the messages made sense.
In todays world why does one need the messages on ones PC/MAC?
Because of the weaknesses (there are strengths to) of NNTP.
And User Interface I suppose.

One last question. When Vista came out they replaced OE didn't they?
Does the replacement and handle quoted printable?

Windows Live Mail, and yes it copes with quoted printable. I switched
from OE to Live Mail specifically to get away from the quoting problem.

I use Thunderbird as my email client, but to the astonishment of many I
actually prefer the user interface of OE & Live Mail as a newsgroup
reader
to many of the 'better' newsreader applications.

Agree, I've tried to get off OE for newsgroups but haven't found an
interface that's as clean.
May give Live Mail a go...

Jesus Bully, you're smart enough to use another news reader. What's
wrong with Thunderbird for example?

If you wan to be really leet, try slrn. If you want to be Uber-leet try
Gnus. No, scrub that last one. You'll send a hit man out for me.

As I've said the TB interface is isn't as good as OE.
I'll try some other clients and report back with a review

.
