***, it's a fair cop. Does this mean I have to move to Thailand?

Not fair ! I can remember on one return visit from Thailand seeing the Ceefax news headlines for Wales. Four out of eight related to child abuse. Social workers and clergymen were subsequently convicted. If one was to say that Wales was a country that condoned child abuse there would be uproar in the valleys, but, apparently, it is safe to say it about another country. Of course, if there's not much news about our guttter press will regurgitate old news. If they cannot throw mud at people over here, they throw it at others abroad.
Paedophilia is a very disturbing subject and should not be the subject of humour. I have found out, after my return, that two men that I had dealings with in Thailand were offenders. I taught at three different schools and was afforded tremendous respect by both children and parents. The perverts who misbehaved abused the trust of these people.
Because I had to wear smart clothes and a tie to work, it was obvious to all the Thai people that I was not a tourist. Even the taxi drivers were nice to me ! There were many good teachers in my school. All loved the country and considered it to be a privilege to work there.
The Thai people are very strict in matters relating to family. The average Thai girl behaves far better than her British counterparts. The assumption that a Thai woman has to be a prostitute is as childish as it is pathetic.
I have tried to find a news article which appeared in the Bangkok Post about four years ago. It related to the killing of a paedophile in police custody. The inquiry cleared the officers of any blame. The criminal had been shot as he was trying to escape from them. The fact that he sitting in the back of a car, with an officer either side of him, when he was shot twice, once by each, was regarded as irrelevant. Thus perish all perverts.
Although a different topic I would like to refer you to a gang of drug dealers caught in Bangkok. All three were photographed and the police celebrated their arrests by allowing pictures to appear in the press. The following morning they were all found dead after having been shot in the back of the head. The official line was that drugs caused terrible problems and had to be dealt with as effectively as possible.
My honest advice to paedophiles is to steer clear of Thailand in particular. The risk of death is rather high. A young man who attacked a six year old girl in Naklua near Pattaya, was hacked to death last year before the police arrived to investigate his crime. I do not advocate this form of rough justice but have to say that it can be most effective.
As usual, the cause of most crime of this sort is poverty. On a visit to Cambodia I saw starving children. I can assure you that it is an awful experience. Seeing it on TV is bad but people can turn that off and they usually do. One little girl carried an umbrella to protect me from the sun. She wanted one baht - less than two new pence. Is it any wonder that these kids are vulnerable ?
I was friendly with the German proprietor of an Internet Cafe and Software dealer. He had struck up a friendship with a German who had been a customer for years. One day, the German failed to clear his computer properly and it was found that he was trading in child pornography. The owner could not tell the police because they would have removed all his property. Instead, the two young guys who worked for him visited the man at his home, gave him a good kicking and warned him never to walk on that street again.
Most of us are lucky to live our lives without coming into contact with such sordid issues. I worked in Cardiff about thirty years ago and had to visit a house in Clifton Street. I am sure that many will know it, it's the one in Adamsdown. Inside the house I found a woman heavily made up and wearing a mini skirt. Before you laugh, or find something to make a joke about, just consider what else I found. The floor and walls of the house were covered in excrement and the little child was living in total filth. It was an extremely upsetting episode and, being younger and and a particularly "angry young man", I went "all guns blazing" to the local Social services department. I didn't make many friends as what I found was an embarrasment for a lot of people. Even my bosses were reluctant to back me as I demanded action to help the child. She was helped but I'm sure it cost me a chance of earlier promotion. I was too much of a hothead.
So, I'm sorry to introduce a serious note to the conversation but many hold views on paedophila but most have no knowledge of it. I have learned that the paedophile is usually a well educated, cunning man who one would never suspect of being as he is. They gang together to protect each other. There is no point in criticising another country. We have our share of perverts in the UK and it does no child any good to pretend that it only happens "over there".

Bloody hell is this the biggest case of a cage rattling on rsru?
Good point though Nigel, kiddy fiddlers are indeed unpleasant folk...
