Beautifully worked.
And anyone here that says that was "so obvious" a forward pass it a
bloody liar. The pass was only a couple of meters at pace. very
difficult to call.
Nonsense. The player was tackled before he released the ball, he was
hardly at pace. He was moving forward yes, but not by much. So a pass
forward by a couple of meters when not at pace is very forward
indeed. To me, when watching the live game on TV, it was very
obviously forward (and I was hoping for a French win). The ref and
Bollox. The game was at pace. It all happened very, very quickly. It was
not "so" obvious at all when you consider the short distance, the
obstructions and the general angles involved.
You're entitled to you opinion but the facts can't be disputed. Watch the youtube video again. The player was tackled before he released the ball and wasn't moving forward by much. If he'd released it before being tackled then yes, momentum could easily have carried the ball forward by 2 meters. I've been blown for that plenty times, try explaining the concept to social referees :\
But, as I say, he was tackled first, his hands passed the ball in a forward direction and it went very obviously forward. Everyone around me cried forward while we were watching, and replays and this subsequent clip show it to be obviously forward. The All Blacks had a large part in their own defeat, but don't try pretend that a refereeing error didn't play a part, however small (this is coming from someone who was supporting the French remember). I'm not even blaming the ref, I think him and the TJ were unsighted and it all happened so quickly.
touch judge were unsighted and with the pace that Michelak hit the
pass it was a difficult one to spot. Well worked by the French, but in
another game another place could have been called forward and the
result may have been different.
As to didgers comments that it hardly made a difference, look
again. Joe was in line with the ball carrier and could probably have
made the tackle had Michelak received the ball in an onside
position. Regardless of that, it was a French mistake that went
bah humbug.
