Will this worldwide trend to use 2nd 15 teams continue in the world cup?
Especially in the Pool games when it is inevitable that the lesser team
will probably lose.
I think with 30 man squads it will happen regularly with teams saving
their best players for the closer games.
Hate to burst your little conspiracy bubble, but deliberately losing means
you'll come second in your pool, and hence face a tougher 1/4 final.
If you want be a world champion, it is much easier to simply win all your
games.
To overcome this
You should lay off the magic crystals...
The last game in group D is Ireland vs Argentina. It could be that a
result either way would see one of them get knocked out, but a draw
would see both of them through. They may decide better to be sure of
that, rather than to risk an exit in the group stage. It wouldn't be
too hard to engineer now would it?
Given that the winner of the group will probably get Scotland, and the
second New Zealand, it seems very unlikely that you'd see such an
'agreement'.

Which is why i said it's far-fetched, as is this scenario. SA decide
to field a second team against England, and by some miracle we beat
them. Australia then decide to field a reserve side against Wales and
lose, therefore securing a semi against us, not SA.
All I'm trying to say is that there are circumstances where going for
the win might not be the best option, which is what I think ET was
getting at.
