Hate to burst your little conspiracy bubble, but deliberately losing means
you'll come second in your pool, and hence face a tougher 1/4 final.
If you want be a world champion, it is much easier to simply win all your
games.

You should lay off the magic crystals...
The last game in group D is Ireland vs Argentina. It could be that a
result either way would see one of them get knocked out, but a draw
would see both of them through. They may decide better to be sure of
that, rather than to risk an exit in the group stage. It wouldn't be
too hard to engineer now would it?
Say England draw with Samoa in the group, and it comes down to whether
Samoa put more on the USA than England do on Tonga. Tonga are probably
easier to persuade to leave a few key players out than the Americans
are (rich gits).
It's far fetched for sure, but it's not totally inconceivable.
