Haiwaiki, is not Hawaii. It is an unknown place where the great migration
is
said to have began. And to say "they all come from Taiwan" is just as
ridiculous. Sure, Asia was part of the migration, but it's hardly like some
Maori villlagers were happily living in Taiwan then skipped on over to a
new
home in the South Pacific.

I can't recall the academic in question, probably on the net somewhere,
but he or she had established DNA profiling that led directly back to a
major migration from Taiwan across Melanesia where they picked up a
bunch of male chromosomes (going cheap, only 9 coconuts per pint) and
made their way across the Pacific, getting bigger and fatter as they
went to combat the cold from long periods in open boats.

In fact, I just did the homework for you and found it on one easy Google.

Certain Maori activits were pretty pissed off with the whole thing as I
recall, as it showed that the Maori didn't originate from the area since
the dawn of creation and aren't a special people set aside by destiny
to inhabit New Zealand and all that nonsense. Just another bunch of
wandering homo sapiens like the rest of us ex-African hobos. Actually, I
guess we have to give the Japies some credit there. They're the only
ones to really try and reclaim the homeland.

Of course some other bloody academic will probably come along next year
and say our noble Polynesian comrades are all from Egypt or something.
Still, it's better than the sky having jiggy jig with the earth I suppose.

Yes, well we have it on good authority that the Polynesians only stopped
off in Taiwan to stock up on cheap computers and digital cameras before
heading down the the land of the long white cloud. In actual fact, they
are all from a small village just outside Bradford.
