Dear RSR members. I've been sent this email by Sport England as they
are researching the membership of rowing clubs for the ARA.

Would you take the time to register for the survey so that our views
as members can be well-represented?

This link takes you to the full text of their email to me and the link
to their survey registration page.

Given this is Sport England survey - should the subject be England
readers only?

The ARA (or should that be British Rowing?!) saw fit to give Sport
England the details of WARA members as well for this survey.

You really can be sure, in these information-obsessed times, that your personal data will not be passed on without your permission! I expect that in some invisible small print you have unconsciously consented to every bit of your private information being passed on to any bunch of geeks that wants to fondle it. I gather that Simon Jenkins & others are now asking cogent questions about whether the UK's Home Secretary, following the recent revelations of her expenses finaglings, & now of her old man's penchant for charging the taxpayer for his viewing of "adult" movies, is now quite so sure as she has previously insisted that your information is even remotely safe in "their" hands.

As for that questionnaire, I couldn't get past page 1 so I can hardly comment. Not fitting any of the listed descriptions, I tried to enter relevant info into the box provided, only to be told a number was required before I could proceed to p2. I wasn't going to lie to go further.

So it sounds like a wonderful way for supernumerary statisticians to generate meaningless & formulaic results & on, the time-honoured basis of GIGO, thereby to tick yet another worthless box giving the only politically acceptable answer - that HMG's policies on sport are working wonderfully.

Yuk!
Carl
