And, if it is "working well", then for whom is it working? Or is this just another of Stuart Ward's lies (sorry, but there's no nicer word for it)? Like his report to Council that _all_ responses to Row Safe had been favourable - which he had yesterday, & with utmost reluctance I gather, to accept was simply not true?

The people who have to operate the system
So, rowers' part in this supposedly grand scheme is so trivial that they can be left out of the information loop? It's all run for them by some immaculate collection of beings, then?

If the people who have to operate the system can't, or are unwilling to make it work, it won't work. I invite the original reporter into the discussion of every case with which I deal. And everyone can, and is encouraged to report safety issues/near misses.

In which case, it should also have continued with all present to complete what became a most revealing discussion on what _must_ be its the most pressing issue. Or is the systematic mismanagement of rowing safety a trivial matter?

It stinks to high heaven, after the last 8 years of deliberate lying & deceit by the organisation (& yesterday may come to rebound very painfully in due course), that key ARA figures simply couldn't be bothered to stay to discuss water safety & hear more about the ARA's continuing attempts to ride roughshod over all the efforts of RoSPA, uncle Tom Cobley & all.

What an indictment!

Insults will get you nowhere. I am not going to comment further.

Sorry, Christopher, but that is a cheap & worthless cop-out.

After the last 8 years of lies & obfuscations, not to mention outrageous libels & slanders against myself & others who first were asking, then pressing then, perforce, demanding intelligent action from the ARA, I am certainly not going to mince my words. Not to you. Not to anyone.

You have been good enough to try to present the ARA's case here. The rest of them have sat behind the facade of 6 Lower Mall spitting tacks & disinformation. For that great difference I have respected you. But do not anyone who cares to sweet talk & dissemble around those issues of ARA misconduct which you find too hard to handle. Responsibility means standing up & presenting your case, to running away & crying "unfair". As you know, nothing in the ARA's conduct of rowing safety has been remotely fair. And you'd have known that better still, had you stayed for the end of yesterday's meeting.

If now you can't take the heat, then shame on you, but at least have the dignity not to feign offence. Remember that _you_ have not had to endure what the parents of Leo Blockley & Sikander Farooq had to endure, & their continuing treatment at the lying hands of the ARA? Think for a moment about that & your own hurt feelings may start to fade. Needless deaths, caused by administrative failures & then subjected to official disinformation campaigns to cover up what caused them, are never pretty. They never result in nice, polite outcomes. And those left to defend the victims reputations, & to expose why they really died - so that there be no more such incidents in future - are never going to conform to your, or anyone else's, cosy views on "nice manners".

I'm in the habit of dealing straight & dealing with the facts - something rather uncommon in certain circles - by asking straightforward questions. You have tried to answer, but too often you have been unable to do so. Even so, to your credit you have never given your answers other than straight. Nor have I ever insulted you. But you have left questions unanswered, so I have just kept on pressing & hoping for better.

I now ask why you think it OK to continue as sole apologist for a system that doesn't work as RoSPA said it should work & is trying its darndest to pull a fast one on both RoSPA & HMG? Perhaps that the hardest question to answer.

Carl
