Loads of students compete at regattas though. It's only Oxbridge

sort of, but there is still a restricted range of regattas that have

student entries, often with multiple colleges/universities competing

just one crew worth of points. It often means university/college crews
are underpointed

Do people forget that students go home in the summer and have ample
opportunity to race at regattas with the non-student boat clubs they
join. We bite the hands off any student who wants to join us for the
summer. They beef up our lower pointed crews and very often win points
with them.

That's fine for some people but lots of students don't live anywhere near
rowable water. The nearest clubs to me would either be Guildford or
somewhere on the Thames such as Walton, both over an hour's journey
away.- Hide quoted text -

I particularly pleased to see that recent internationals are
automatically elite. That's a definite step forward and will stop
world champions competing at Senior 1 which is something I posted
about at the time....

"Looking at the press release which details some of the crews, there
appears to be another example of internationals competing in lower
status events. Take S1 quads for example:
Molesey: Triggs-Hodge, Fieldhouse, Solesbury and Stephenson (all GB
internationals at sweep)
Marlow/London: Purchase, Lindsay-Fynn, Clarke, Harte
Leander: Lawson, Palmer, Wilkinson and Clark

Surely it makes sense that if at least 50% of the crew has a senior
international vest then the crew should have to compete at elite

This is not a criticism of these crews, they are entering in
accordance
with the rules, but (as has been discussed before) it seems a little
unfair when you see some of the names who are racing below the elite
status."
