The easiest solution to this problem is not to offer Veteran events at
all...

The discussion at the West Midlands RRC on Monday evening got around to
the
region's winning crews at the Nat Vets regatta and the subject of veteran
status events in general. I raised the point that if the winning Bewdley
VetC Nov 8o had beaten 3 other crews, rather than just two (i.e. the event
was qualifying) then they would no longer be novice and would be in a bind
as there would be no level of competition for them because I've never seen
a
status veteran event other than novice. Therefore they wouldn't be able to
compete because they would be coming across ex-elite rowers.
I was almost unibersally contradicted by people arguing that under rule
4-1-9 because it was described as Vet C Nov and not Nov Vet C that they
would have been still novice whilst I maintain that rule 4-1-3e
emphatically
means that they wouldn't be.
Anyone else like to wade in?
I believe you're right and it does count as their novice win. Veteran
events don't attract *points* (3-3-5c) but a win in a qualifying
veteran event *does* remove novice status (3-3-2a and b). 4-1-7a is
pretty clear on the subject - "veteran events will not attract senior
status points, however a qualifying win will count as a novice win".
I have assumed that if you win veteran novice with more than 4 entries
you lose your novice status.
Arguing that veteran novice is different to novice veteran is plain
stupid in my book
By the way Burway are offering vet senior 3 as well as vet novice and
vet open at their vets and junior regatta in August
