I had problems too and gave up as little time enough to row without
trying to calibrate it each time..... and when I bought my second hand
single it came with a Davies Rowtech Ratemeter - very old but still
working very well... the MiniRate has been knocked about in the bottom
of my kitbag and is still functioning so I can't knock the manufacture
and component quality, just the application of the internal sensor


Yes, I can't get my MiniRate to work either and after a few attempts it
is languishing in my locker - have tried various angles but I can't get
any sort of consistent readings.

I have the Cadence ratemeter which predated the watch version, and that
is great until it gets wet, which obviously when rowing is pretty
likely. The waterproof seal via an o-ring is woeful, so even a gentle
splash and it will pack up (I have replaced the o-ring and tried all
sorts but it is a poor design really). I've been meaning to get the
watch version as the build quality looks infintiely superior, but NK
won't send it to me despite there being an Hong Kong option via online
ordering - I went through that rigmarole and when it hadn't turned up
after a month emailed them, only to find out they had alledgedly sent
me an earlier email saying they couldn't accept my order and I should
go via the HK distributor (who we have not had the best service from
with our cox boxes, who has no website or address, and frankly I was in
a huff anyway!).
