Go ahead, you choose!
You have a very goofy way of admitting when you're incorrect.
You simply declare yourself correct about a topic not discussed
and invent two people to be wrong!
This thread has not been at all about drive to recovery ratio.
try to keep up.
Mike
Keep up? This seems to be so far out in front of you, it's hard to
imagine.
You can't think outside a very tiny box apparently. I didn't 'invent'
anyone, both yourself and Kieran claimed (by easily defined direct
relationships) exactly the same thing (described accurately above), and
you have even gone as far as to say "the ideal recovery would be
accelerating the slide during the recovery" but that you "do not coach
that" because blah, blah, blah...... You are very confused.
I don't have to declare being correct, it's obvious at this point.
Is English not your primary language? Perhaps I should translate to
Californian.
Later, dude!

Lets all just chill a bit. Fundementally, and this makes rowing and
coaching so much fun, unlike say, Formula One, different things work
for different people. If there was a a clear correct path of doing it
then it would be very boring.
Thats not just technique, it's visualization and communication of
technique as well. The number of people who sat next to Harry Mahon
wanting to understand how he did it and then repeated what he said when
they were with their own boats was quite funny. Or who sit with Thor
Nielson etc. Both these individules had/have amazing results in world
rowing in different countries. That to me is the litmus test.
Coaches have to find their own way. At the end of the day, results
count. Results. Not Oh I coached so and so who went on to do this or
that, but results. When a coach can say I stood and watched my crew I
prepared get a medal here or there, then they can say they got it right
or even that they coached a boat at the WC. Because there is a huge
amount more to it than just being able to spot a technical fault. Also
in a couple of outings you will never change someones tehnique. Going
for the odd session with a National Team sculler does not make you a
National Team coach. To alter someones technique to any great degree
requires a significant investment in time. Months. (This last bit is
not aimed at anyone in particulat because I have no idea what people
have done).
I think Paul is exceptionally clear in what he say, perhaps thats the
scientist and I can apply what he says to my way of coaching so I like
it. Mike you are more wishy washy. But hey many excellent coaches would
not even try and explain what they mean because it's something they
see. When it's right they say...I see it...it's right. But at least for
now you don't need to be a scientist or understand fluid dynamics or
Kenetics or anything, to get it right. It's interpretation, delivery
and in my view simplicity which goes a long long way.
