That's not what is being shown in that set of curves, the Y axis is
POWER not FORCE.
I made the same mistake when first reading that paper and thought he
had his force curves reversed (based on the styles), but it makes sense
as POWER (force/time).
That particular issue has some usefull data in the tables, but after
reading it again, I'm not sure that even the author has a clear
understanding of what they are saying. They talke about changing the
FORCE curve, but then display a Power curve. Quite confusing.
And for my tired little brain you have just made it even more confusing!
I confess I wasn't even thinking about distinguishing between FORCE and
POWER.
The curves, however, corroborate my own experiences on the erg. When I erg
in what Kleshnev calls "Classical Style" I produce a curve that is "more
triangular." When I row a "Simultaneous Style" I produce a curve "more
rectangular."
I am still now sure what these curves are measuring.
