I don't know much about your regatta but at Hexham we have only one boating
area. Because of this we can insist that crews boat (for two-lane races)
with their opposition. This means that crews arrive at the start with their
opponents ready to race. If one crew is missing, perhaps due to events
beyond their control, the racing is not interrupted; and no lone crews are
sitting in the start area. Also crews having any difficulty boating on time
must contact the regatta Secretary AND their opponents. This works for
two-lane racing from one boathouse, but is unwieldy for multi-lane racing
from several boat clubs.
