Re: Regatta Programmes

Our preset order of events is published in advance so people can plan
their entries to minimise clashes.

The organisers are usually pretty good with certain categories where
boats a always doubled up. We have peculiar novice boats ('tubs' we
call them - 4+, 2+, 1x) that both men and women will share. These
events are time tabled with that in mind.

One thing they don't always get right is the mix of events to allow
common combinations. Most clubs would expect their two novice 4s to
also be the novice 8. Not always possible. Your intermediate level
singles and doubles? Well, they can't do the quad. These would seem
like common double ups. Some regattas don't always offer the boat class
you want at the status you want. However, every year the clubs seem to
need something a little different so it is always changing - and thus
never making everyone happy.

Is there a fool proof way? No. You will always inconvenience someone.
However, if you minimise the clashes of boat types and squads (ie mix
the status grades a bit, don't run 5 events in a row for one status
category!) you will get close. At the end of the day, officials should
be able to start the race on time and not have to worry about you
running late - you know what the program is, so enter your crews to
suit that.
