That sounds pretty darn good. Like SF ought to be done...
Alright. I just got back from the cinema. I saw both "Moon" and
"Bruno" today.
Moon kicked ass. It's a smart, little sci-fi story done on a meager
budget of $5M. Cool storyline, nice special effects. The revalation as
to what's going on happens midway through the film. The ending is very
satisying. It is a low key movie so if you're expecting over-the-top
action sequences and CGI forget it. I give the movie a letter grade of
"A". It proves that excellent sci-fi movies can be done inexpensively
without losing quality. I'd like to see more of this high quality
filmmaking, cinematography, special effects and scriptwriting on a
small budget.
Bruno. I debated whether or not to go see it but I did. AlI in all
it's pretty lame. There are some funny scenes but I found most of the
humor to be hack comedy. The Ron Paul scene was funny because it was a
hidden camera stunt that captured Ron Paul getting legit pissed off.
Most of the film's stunts were works or rather worked shoots. The
Paula Abdul scene was a work, the boot camp scene was a work, the
Richard Bey Show scene was a work, the gay cage fighting scene is
supposedly a shoot and was funny but I thought it should of been
funnier given that set up. Letter grade "D+". Lazy and redundant gross-
out comedy for the most part. I think Borat was a better effort but
perhaps Sacha Baron Cohen's has run out of ideas.
When I saw the premise for "Moon" the first thing I thought of were
the old Twilight Zone episodes. Well written and shot smart on
relatively small budgets. If this has that kind of verve I know which
of these two flicks that I'll make an effort to watch....
Thanks for the review.
