Because there's Youtube?

(I'm not defending the crappiness of today's MTV but airing music
videos on broadcast television is an outdated idea...)

You know, I don't get all fuzzy watching a video on a computer screen and
litening to the music through even a decent speaker system; I'd rather have
the music coming through my surround sound system and the video showing on
my 50" Sony HDTV. Call me old fashioned and outdated

Okay. You're old-fashioned and outdated. (j/k)

but somehow, that
just seems like the way its meant to be seen. BTW, I'm not tragically
unhip, but I don't get all excited about having movies or TV shows on an
Ipod, either. I mean, why in the hell do I have a 50" HDTV in my livingroom
if I'm supposed to be watching my movies and shows on a 2.5" screen with
less than standard TV resolution. Somehow, I can't get my head wrapped
around the idea. So I can watch on the go? Yeah, sure. I really should be
watching Batman while I'm sitting in the waiting room at my dentist, I'm
sure that's what the director and actors had in mind.

When it comes to movies, I agree with you that going with the 50" HDTV
is a no-brainer.

However, when it comes to music videos and most TV shows, where 75% of
the experience is auditual, the 2.5" screen is fine, as long as you
can recognize who's speaking.

Of coarse, the big advantage with watching Youtube on a 2.5" screen
over watching MTV on a 50" HDTV is control. You have a say in what
music videos you watch on an iPod. On MTV, not so much...
