Well it appears that the parrot microphone when mounted in the OEM mic
position picks up stupidly large amounts of noise. So my thoughts: -
The Mic is in a piece of quite dense foam to stop movement. - I'm
going to put a piece of dynmat extreme etc on the roof above the Mic
to try reduce noise. - I might also put some around them mic, to form
an enclosed "box" around the mic. Any other suggestions.

Parrot Microphone I never fit the mics behind the oem grills, one
because i am lazy and we have a set amount of time to do a handfree
kit. and two because ive never managed to make it work correctly. My
conclusions were that the mic has to touch the plastic and this causes
small vibrations whihc the mic picks up as sound. Its the same when u
mount the mic on the windscreen, wind noise vibrates through the glass
and causes distortion to the mic. __________________ Re: Noise on

the OEM housing isn't an option for a few reasons. The mic doesn't
touch the plastic as the foam keeps it pushed back from this. Think
I'll try some dynamat type stuff next and then who knows.

few car kits and although no expert, I am very methodical in my work
(The nature of my work means I have to be methodical in solving
faults), so what I would do is: Install the Mic (temporarily) on the
headlining by the light cluster, with the slits pointing at the driver
(I know this is obvious, but I have seen a "proffessional"
fitter point a Nokia Mic away from the driver towards the windscreen.
If this doesnt solve the problem then the noise could be a dodgy
connection or interference from other components in the car. When I
installed a Parrot kit in an old Zafira I ran the Mic cable next to
something that I shouldnt of done and created quite a lot of back
ground noise. If it does solve the problem then carry on with your
dynamat ideas but remember that the parrot mic is encased in plastic
which is being installed behind even more plastic, it wasnt designed
for that surely. Have a look at the forum at siocommunications.co.uk
to see if anyone else has tried what you are doing Steve

Microphone I wonder if a more suitable microphone can be used, the
Parrot one isn't all that great imho for background noise as standard.

major reason is that there has to be nothing visible as to where the
car can be parked from time to time. The display an be easily hidden
so a mic is a give away.
The parrot mic isn't that good I agree, however I'm told that I can be
heard just fine when the car isn't moving at speed. On that basis, I
don't think it's interference but road/wind noise that are causing the
problems. I've not had any problems hiding the thing in the MK I Octy
and that had a sunroof, so I can't see why the MK II should be so much
worse. __________________ Aquapel Group Buy Cars make CO2 and trees

Flat Red Fabia (80BHP) Re: Noise on Parrot Microphone I have just
installed a nokia ck-7w in my 08 Fabia. I took the standard nokia mic
and removed all of the plastic casing that it is supplied with, and to
my suprise the microphone is not directional but simply a round disc
mic soldered to a circuit board that faces down. The directional holes
in the mic casing that you would assume to point at the driver had no
relevance to its operation. There is a rubber holder like thing inside
the casing that keeps the earth connection on the mic so obviously I
left that on. I took the light cluster out of the head lining to fit
the mic in the OEM mic hole. There was a piece of foam in the slot
where the mic goes so I removed that. The inner bits of the nokia mic
fit almost perfectly in the OEM slot with some gentle pushing, it is
however ju http://www.chinese-microphone.com/OEM-MIC.html st a little
shallow for the clips to hold it in. I found that I needed to cut the
original foam insert through the middle longways and fit it over the
mic to hold it firmly in place using the clips. This also created a
seal between the gap above the headlining and the mic to stop noise
from there going into the mic hole. Many miles and conversations
later, not one complaint about excessive road noise or interference. I
assume that VAG use the same headlining light cluster thing in all the
VAG cars. I can take some pictures if it would help. The Following 2
