- In 10 years, China and India will be superpowers. Not just in
economics, but also in terms of standard of living, military, and
political muscle in International Affairs.
Myth. Chinese political muscle is going up and will hit big in 10
to 15 years. However, militarily they are nothing and will remain
nothing. It is the old Soviet Cold War mentality of thinking bigger
is better. Oooh, Chinese army is large. So what? Man for man,
Chinese military is inferior to those of countries around them, much
less on a global stage. Standard of living - there are two Chinas
here to consider. China of Beijing and China of rural communities
where indoor plumbing is a 21st century invention. The first China
will reap the benefits of modernity and be on the level of New York
and London. The second China is screwed and will never climb out of
poverty. Average standard of living will go up just a bit, but
never hit Western levels.
India will never achieve high living standards outside of Mumbai and
other large population centers and even there, the area of progress
will be limited to a few city blocks. You can go from rich
neighborhood to Medieval poverty within a single city block in India
and that will always remain that way. Indian military is tough,
seasoned and can be a power in the region. However, they will not be
a global force. Politically speaking, they are the bitches of
Wal-Marts of the world. Their power comes not as a nation state,
but as a giant factory for Western corporations which use it. Being
the bitch of the toughest inmate in prison is still being a bitch.
You can go from rich neighborhoods to medieval poverty in America.
And it's becoming more common, since all the jobs are being
outsourced there.
You say India is the bitch of Wal Mart, but that's better than what
America is these days. That giant factory means America spends money,
without making it. Because of those giant corporations, America gets
poorer and poorer, while India gets richer and richer.
Only someone who has never been outside of US borders can say
something like that. People in Mumbai would think South Central LA is
a paradise.
Forget South Central LA, I'm talking about the Midwest. The middle class
gets smaller by the day.
There is a difference between urban decay and mass
structural poverty. America is not getting poorer. We're sending
money overseas, but in return for that we get goods.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. We send money overseas, and
they send goods. That money never makes it back here.
It's not like
India is a drain on our economy.
It's exactly like India is a drain on our economy.
They are providing us with things.
As for money going to India - do you see it making situation better?
Do you see average standard of living increasing over there? Or do
you see a subclass of wealthy Indians blowing money in Monte Carlo and
nailing models in Moscow?
It's making India into a world power and it's making America less of a
world power.
This money is not staying in India. There
is nowhere to spend it in India. There is nothing to spend it on. It
is not getting invested in local business. It is not uplifting the
domestic Indian economy. It is being spent in London, NYC, Madrid,
Monte Carlo, Paris, Moscow and Miami.
- Don't drink Soda's. Soda's are bad for you, they have half a cup
full of sugar, and are so acidic they can wash toilets. Drinking
soda is pretty much asking for diabeties and/or corroding your
stomach.
Pretty much a fact. But, they taste good.
- Immigrants unsettle society. Some places, such as counties in
Virginia like Prince William and Loudon, are rightfully enacting
laws to make life for outsiders miserable. After all, if you're in
the USA "assimilate, and don't degrade the 'standard of living' in
your community".
Without immigrants US would die. We are a nation that depends on
them to keep going. They are our lifeblood and closing borders
would destroy us as a country and change us in a way that nobody can
predict. The problem is not immigrants, the problem is the welfare
state which assigns economic rather than political rights to
citizenship. Free borders and free exchange of labor across them is
vital for the world to prosper as a whole.
- It is "easier" to pick-up women that are 30-45 than 20-30. They
are hornier, and also "they know what they want" and they "don't
expect anything".
Eh. I'd say a myth, because either category can be picked up with
the same ease or difficulty depending on what you look like and what
kind of car you drive.
- Conservatives are inherently "mean". Those that fall sick and
cant' afford it, or those that get pregnant and decide their not
ready for the children, etc are in difficult choices and have
nobody but themselves to blame. The individual, not society, is
responsible for ensuring a minum acceptable standard of health
(physical, economic, pyschological, etc).
Myth. There are conservatives out there that favor large
governments and intervention. They just want intervention on their
terms. You're thinking of Libertarians with a capital "L" here.
- Japanese cars are better made, more stylish and more durable than
American cars. The same is even more true for European made cars.
Myth. Japanese cars are not more stylish than American ones, but
are more durable and are generally better made.
- Liberals are pretty much socialists that do not respect freedom
of the individual.
Myth. Classic liberals favor small governments and individual
rights. Neo-liberals and washed over Marxists in a post-Cold War
world pretending to be liberals however are socialists.
- Don't drink tap water. It has all sorts of lead, and other
nasties in it. Tap water is probably dirtier than toilet water in
terms of bacteria and germs contained in it. Stick to bottled
water.
Depends on where you live.
