Why we are winning agaist terrorists and why that frightens some
people, and what those people are trying to do about it.

First of all... National Review? Is that better than NewsMax? FLUSHED.

Secondly, it's becoming rather amusing to see what you war-supporters
will convince yourselves of to avoid coming to the realization that
it's
an unwinnable cluster*** over there.

To paraphrase Lindsey Graham, who would you prefer to win if not the
U.S.?

Your concept of "winning" is nebulous at best. There's no such thing as
"winning" or "losing" anymore.

Really? Why don't you ask some countries who have been on the losing
end of things? Belgium, Poland, Bosnia, or Kuwait will do. If you
think that there is no consequence to defeat you really are deluded,
and make no mistake, a retreat from Iraq would bring attacks on other
fronts, for the war there would not end there. Not unless the US and
her allies end it there in the only way that can end it there. Victory
and an Iraq where the sacrifice of so many Iraqis who have been killed
by terrorists as well as those others of other countries can bring a
better future for the people there, and show the world that extremists
don't have the only voice in that part of the world. If that is
inconvenient for you politically or it bothers your dinner hour,
tough.

We've all lost, regardless of the outcome.

Wrong. How many times have you come onto RSPW, talking about how much
you like this or that about rights, about the Constitution? Any
Western one, really, they all have common ground in the same tree
going back to English Enlightenment and our documents here in the US.
How many times have you looked around and been thankful that you live
in a place where the daily violence seen in other parts of the world
is not happening? Those are the very matters that hang in the balance
between victory and defeat in the struggle to maintain and advance
civilization, and if that is not worth fighting for to anyone, it will
be lost, and Darwin would say rightly so. If you want that to be the
epitath of all those things, I strongly disagree with your reasoning.
You think those things are lost? Why are you here, free to post
anything you want? If you believe human beings have right to those
things you should be against the enemy facing us in Iraq. Saying
"We've all lost" is not right, for I guarantee that if the US is
pulled out of Iraq, our enemies will consider themselves victorious,
and they will use the same methods and tactics elsewhere, because they
will want to win again. I also guarantee that it will take a whole lot
more to stop them then, if we are still willing to try.

DEP, you are intelligent and eloquent. I enjoy debating with you, as I do
TMS, because I know that a) you have a brain, and b) you aren't just
bleating someone elses talking points to make yourself sound smart (*cough*
Gow *cough*). I respectfully disagree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY on this
manner. Your views of black and white, right and wrong, winning and losing
in this manner are sorely misguided. It's as plain as the ugly face on Gow's
Fat Head that the Iraqis have no interest in a peaceful, positive
self-government. Those various factions have been at war with each other for
centuries, and the fact that their wacko religion which advocates violence
to the point of mass murder for simple slights against their spiritual
views, and no form of government outside of a brutal dictatorship (read:
Saddam) will keep that country, or that region, in line. You are under the
viewpoint that the Iraqis want democracy. Well, Democracy is a concept that
is DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED to their main religion, which advocates absolute
obedience to the Quran, the Mullahs, and the Clerics. Until the Islamic
religion undergoes a radical transformation like Christianity did during the
Reformation, they will not accept any kind of rule by the masses. The
situation there is unwinnable, because your admitted criteria for victory is
impossible.
