Apparently, the groundwork for this relationship was laid out in
Priest's BP run a few years ago.

Around that time, Earth X featured the 2 of them married in Wakanda.

Then suddenly, in a recent X-comic, Storm made out with Panther at the
end of a crossover, which had all readers go "Wha?! What was that
about?!?"

And now this.

But considering the current Marvel regime like to f*ck with marriages -
they split Jean and Scott, and have been trying to mess with Peter and
MJ for years until fans told them to stop - this won't last long, and
more than anything will probably be just a plot point of this larger
"Civil War" event that, like all other events of the day, "WILL CHANGE
THE MARVEL UNIVERSE FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!"
