Teachers, regardless of what they teach, should know how to

What should be done with a teacher, any teacher, any one involved
in academia who misspells a word? Beheading? Prison? What?

Made to take remedial English at a nearby high school if its
chronic.

It it didn't work the first time what makes you think it is going to
work a second time?

What if the person is an ace at English...ie there is more to
language
than spelling? Anyone with a solid science background would probably
be an ace at English. I had an editor substitute the word intimate
for
the word initiate because initiate wasn't in the spellchecker they
used.  They changed the document and published it as such without
checking with me. So much for advanced English, IMHO. It's the
difference between knowing how to spell and knowing how to use
language, but that's a concept far beyond the abilities of someone
like Knight. For people like him, if it's spelled OK, it's OK...and
if
the word isn't in the dictionary you are using, he doesn't have any
capability of understanding what it means.

Somehow I doubt that's what Bobby meant. Being able to spell is the
precondition for making sense in writing and is something that anyone
who wishes to teach should have mastered. Past that, you have to know
what words mean, how to form them into coherent thoughts, et cetera.-

Being able to spell is one thing. Worrying about it with respect to
this sort of thing is quite another. Some of the scratching of some of
the best thinkers in history are in fact illegible to someone like
you, but others have figured out what they say. Some are in fact
dyslexic. Being able to think is one something, being able to spell
much less. Actually spelling every word you write correctly is of no
real value. Of course some make great use of spellcheckers, and make
mistakes such as that I described earlier. pEdantic twits make a lot
of this sort of thing. A good means to ID them.

Dyslexia is a condition, really an illness, and that is different. We
are talking about sloppy English through simple laziness, and there is
not an excuse for it. And 'pEdantic twits" tend to know where capital
letters belong.- Hide quoted text -

There is a difference between laziness and knowing where to apply your
time. With first drafts, I want to get the ideas on paper. I don't
care about spelling among other things. As for time, I don't spend
much time reviusing RSG posts. I have better things to do. Of course
you are a pedantic twit whose rhetorical style is to constantly beg
the question. You get away with it here because there is a threashold
of particiapnts who lack the conciousness to see and understand what
you are doing.

What are "reviusing" and "conciousness"? You just keep digging a deeper
hole.
