The Medicare program covers approximately 40 million people at a
cost
of about $220 billion dollars-or about $5,200 per person. By
contrast,
the medical insurance program for Congress and other federal
employees, the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHBP),
covers approximately 9 million people at a cost of about $2,200
per
person. The FEHBP offers people more freedom of choice at less
than
half the cost of the Medicare program.

So this government program provides quality healthcare that is
also
cheaper.
Hmmmm, that sounds like a good idea.

Why do we need the government involved in everyone's health
insurance?
Why not give those "47 million" uninsured vouchers to go and buy
insurance through the government plan. The cost would be about
$100
billion a year.
Who gives them the vouchers? The government, of course.

Geez.
If Obama wants to do something about the "47 million" uninsured then
$100 billion is a better solution that a complete and total
government
take over of the health care system from top to bottom.

For someone with your alleged intelligence you really do miss the
obvious.
Total non sequitur. A complete makeover is exactly what this bloated
and inequitable system needs.

Even someone with your intelligence should not miss this flash of the
blinding obvious.
80% of the people are happy with the insurance and health care they
have
now. Nothing is broken.

Cite?

PS: I am sure the 45 million are just thrilled with the status quo.

Why don't you pay attention to current events?

It is amazing that a man of your alleged intelligence takes facts and
figures from private corporations without a skeptical eye or ear and
does a bit more research into their validity.

If the media or the current administration put out some information you
accept it true. However, if some corporation puts out some information
it is immediately false.

OK, you don't have a cite. As I thought.

Clark must live in a cave. He needs a cite for what should be common
knowledge. Conversations with Bill Clark are like the movie 'Ground Hog
Day.'

And now the name calling and deflection begin...

You should read your "cites" more carefully. Quote:

"Key survey findings included that 84 percent of those who are currently
insured are satisfied with their health care. For those without
insurance, only 46 percent had some level of satisfaction with their
health care. Almost 80 percent agreed that rising healthcare costs are
hurting American businesses. An expanded role for government in health
care is opposed by 48 percent of Americans, while 44 percent support it.
Forty-six percent of respondents agreed that a public plan is needed to
"keep insurance companies honest.""

and

"John Zogby, president and CEO of Zogby International, said, "In this
wide-ranging poll we discovered that Americans want costs reduced and
want to see everyone insured, but they are divided down the middle on
how best to proceed. The likelihood of achieving consensus is low.""

This is hardly the kind of ringing endorsement for the status quo, as
you try to make it out to be. Also note that the only health plan
included, is the Bill currently before the House, and we all think that
is incomplete at best.
