I see. Around the time Clinton was saying you have to be making $70K
to be middle class, I was making $26,500 and paying off a student loan
and I was able to purchase health care. It was a sacrifice, for sure,
but I *CHOSE* to make it because I thought it was worth it. If I
hadn't thought it was worth it, why should someone else have to cough
up the money anyways...if it's not worth it to me....or is it that why
pay for it myself when we can get someone else to pay for it?

And were you supporting a wife and two or three kids, paying market
rates for rent, paying for medical coverage for all of you, keeping
the kids in clothes, paying union dues and church tithes, commuting to
work either by car or by municipal transit, and having an occasional
night out to maintain sanity and marital harmony?

Why would I pay union dues? One thing for sure, I didn't have enough
money to pay for other people's health care. Funny homw most people
can take care of themselves though. Funny also how govt. programs
designed to alleviate say poverty never work. thus being in support of
such programs means you don't care about the poor because the fact is
the programs don't work. What you do care about is government!

Around the same time we were day to day, I had a 19 year old young
woman as one of my students. She had 3 kids and a high school degree.
She did her 4 years of college, went to a professional school and
married someone she met there. They went to a medium sized midwestern
city and are both emplyed in that profession, probably making
collectively 100 - 150K. She is no rocket scientist, pretty average
academically. Used the social serives avaiable to advance herself.
these people are worth supporting....layabouts who think they are too
good to work, or too good to have to work to achieve
something..they'll take it if it's free though... aren't worth a plug
nickel.
