I got some info about an upcoming golf tournament, where a local
elementary school is sponsoring a golf outing to pay for school
books. If this is what things are coming to here, it is really sad.
Heart wretching sad!

Where is the outrage of the families? Where is the outrage of the
local politicians and school boards? Seems to me in the general
scheme of things, when you compare the costs of running a small city,
the cost of books would be almost incidental. Shows where our
prioritites are. Has anyone seen the new prisons, hospitals, and
schools going up in Iraq? Real nice. Our tax dollars at work.

I hope this outing falls flat on its face. This is an utterly whimpy
way to deal with the problem. It fixes nothing and can make the
problem a whole lot worse, despite best intentions. Because if t
he
outing is an overwhelming success, this might just put more pressure
on the parents to continue to be responsible for the price of books,
partially or in full in the future. At a time when households are
already stretched to the limit in many cases. Maybe next year, t
hey
will make another cut, maybe for athletic equipment or lab supplies,
and the parents will have to do even more fund raising? The parents
already pay school taxes, why do they need extra fund raisers for
books? Books, which are a necessity, not some type of luxury.

Faith-based initiatives.

Most people haven't even begun to understand the changes that are
coming. And I'm not talking about those changes coming from economic
conditions. I can't help but wonder what people thought when they
heard that there would be fundamental changes. Let me see. What are
the fundamentals of the US? There's the constitution. I first
thought that it would be re-written over time as activist judges
interpret what we have until the language can be changed. Now I'm
thinking it will just be thrown out in favor of a global
constitution. Then there is the balance of powers. That's a
fundamental. There isn't much of that going on today though now that
the Republicans blew it. I'm expecting to see moves that will make it
difficult for the Republicans or any other party to ever gain a
majority again. I know! The national census. If the executive
branch could ever get control of that, voting district boundaries
could be re-written (ala gerrymandering at the federal level) to move
more Democrat voters into the districts where the election has been
historically close. Speaking of faith-based initiatives, that's been
a fundamental up until now. But the problem is they compete with the
government for dollars. I know! We can reduce or eliminate the
deductability of charitable contributions. That'll shut down the cash
flow and get rid of those PITA charitable organizations - especially
the ones that are religiously based and make the government look so
bad with their 90% application of collected funds to the intended
purpose. Yup! The changes, they're a coming all right. As a Vietnam
vet I never thought I'd see socialism come in the back door so
easily. Socialism, the inevitable destination of entropy. And we can
thank the Republicans for opening the door.

You either dropped too much acid in the '60s...

Or you're still dropping too much acid now...

I mean, like, now, as in, within the last hour.

Whew...

I think we should all observe a moment of silence for you.

One of these days you've gotta tell us, what's it like in that bubble?

Look douchebag, you're as quick to debate someone whose opinion you happen to disagree with as I am. Unfortunately, there aren't any old pictures of you back when you were pretty. Because you never were.
