I understand. But my BOX issue is the friggen IPOD.

So convert to Apple Lossless...

Apple Lossless isn't lossless.

Really? Care to produce any proof of that?

AAC isn't lossless, but it isn't the same thing, either.

flac is, shn is

Same song below, both from original flac file.
The first is after I imported it into ITunes uses Apple Lossless
encoder
The second is playing it from original flac using Foobar 2000

Greatest Story 5:18 Grateful Dead Paris 5-4-1972 225 kbps mp3

Did you even read? "225kbs *MP3*"

Greatest Story 5:18 Grateful Dead Paris 5-4-1972 771 kbps flac

Looks to me that the flac file is pushing more data.

Yeah, the mp3 has less data.

And an *MP3* is not using Apple Lossless Compression. Try changing the
preferences in iTunes to actually use Apple Lossless.

The file originally exists in flac or shn. Soundboard file that was captured
by the band and saved as a flac.
It was never released commercially on a cd or vinyl.
Itunes will not accept / import a flac or shn.
I have to burn the flac to cd, then import the cda into Itunes.
Why would I want to do all of that when a universally accepted file format
( flac) already plays it and flac is the accepted standard for live music.
Why did Apple have to go and invent their own propriatary lossless file
format when the rest of the world is using a free open source file format?

Are you seriously saying that "100% of [your] music collection" is
Soundboard files captured by bands?

No.

So you could have used iTunes for a lot of things all along.

And yes I was in error. My preferences were already set to Apple Lossless,
but it would never work. So I ended up using Traders Little helper utility
to convert to mp3 at the highest value.
They average @ 225.
If you know of a way to get flac imported into ITunes using Apple Lossless,
let me know. I do like the GUI in Itunes.
I probably have my Ipod around here somewhere but I usually use my Sansa
Fuse or Foobar to play my flacs right out of the box.
