First "golf" in 7 years!


Due to "family" constraints, I haven't been able to play golf for the
past 7 years... that's after playing regularly for the previous 74. My
son-in-law has talked me in to going out with him today, so, had to
prepare. Last time he talked me into going to the driving range, I
totally missed the first couple of balls, and nearly shanked a couple
into the guy practising on the next tee in front of me. A dozen
swings, and I was too tired to continue.

Anyway...

My near-new shoes have been in the car trunk for the 7 years. Got 'em
out and tried them on. Still in amazingly good shape, however, I've
been wearing clogs, slippers, or nothing for the past few years, and
the feet don't fit in them anymore. OK... I'll wear athletic shoes!

Next, I had to get my clubs out from behind a host of other junk in
the garage. Finally got to the dusty bag and clubs, and... found out
that seven years of virtual inactivity had created a problem... I have
a large, heavy duty Walter Hagen bag, a full set of 14 clubs, balls
and retriever, plus assorted junk... and, it was so heavy that my
un-exercized body couldn't pick up that bag. Had to clear space and
drag it out so I could survey the contents. Found balls that bounced
like a rock... found gloves that tore when I tried them on... found
that my umbrella had rotted and no longer worked... found old score
cards that reflected what I wish I could shoot today, aaaand... after
disposing of most of the uneccessary items, I still couldn't pick it
up!

He'll be here in a little over an hour and then my adventure begins...
I'll report tomorrow! That's if I can get out of bed and get to this
machine. Wish me luck and strength!
