What is amazing is that Pelosi orally whipped the Republicans on the
floor of the House and then couldn't get enough votes to pass her bill.
If she had held her caucus together she could have passed the bill
without any Republican votes. But, she gave some in her party the
green-light to vote not to help ensure their seats come Nov. 4th.
But she had time to ask the 93 Democratic members who voted against
the bill to change their votes. I think she got 2.
It all back-fired on her. It couldn't have happened to a more partisan
and mean spirited lady.
In times of crisis real leaders shine. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi
failed miserably. She should have waited for the bill to pass first
before giving the "it's all Bush's fault" speech.
I'm sorry but is seems to me that more Republicans voted against it than
Democrats. Frankly I'm glad they voted it down, but facts are facts.
Here's something I picked up today in another newsgroup for you to
cogitate about. I think it is a pretty good analogy of this crapola :

You know, this is like a cross country drive where the driver and
navigator change every so often.
While it might be true that the previous driver has contributed to the
destination or current location, each successive driver (President)
makes decisions with the advice of his front seat passenger/navigator
(Congress) that adjust the route and speed to his goals, wishes and
destination. (And the Supreme Court in the backseat yelling as the
back seat driver). The driver can decide Seattle over San Francisco
or deal with the road construction he encounters as he wishes.
On getting behind the wheel for a change of drivers he can be allowed
to bitch about where he is. But after driving for 1500 miles his
location is his responsibility. Bush has been in the driver's seat for
almost 8 years now, he's had a GOP navigator for 6 of it. We are
where he has put us. He can try to share the blame with the previous
drivers, but he put us here. His choices put us here.
Perhaps the biggest question out of this is why are we after 8 years
of leadership so SUDDENLY faced with this crisis that needs 700
billion IMMEDIATELY instead of a less drastic precautionary fix or
redirection 3 months ago, 6 months ago, a year ago or two years ago?
That is a failure of leadership.
Meanwhile the Congress changed to the Dems in Jan 2007. And they've
been screaming turn left turn left for 20 months and Bush has been
saying *** you I know where I'm going.
The GOP doesn't get to walk away and blame the passenger on this one.
