Don't seem to see any talk about the Ryder Cup. I think the Europeans
should be very uneasy about being favored - I think the underdog role
suits them much better. Also much has been made in the UK press about
Faldo as Captain. He is the ultimate loner, and he trusts others so
little that he has only Olazabel as a vice captain, and not enough
assistants to have one with each group playing on the course. He is not
a popular personality over there, and many seriously question how good
he will be at fostering the kind of team unity that has been the great
trump card of recent European teams.
I have a sneaking feeling that this is one that the US might take. They
are young and should be a little ticked off at having been so dominated
in the last decade. Time will tell.
Incredibly, Clark is talking sense for the first time in his entire
life. This is the first time he posts about golf, too. If USA will
ever win this fantastic match it must be now. Azinger is a brilliant
fellow, while Faldo is a bore. USA is all the stronger because Tiger
is not playing - his Ryder record is miserable. Harrington´s record is
bad too - and he is playing for Europe! The Ryder Cup is the most
fabulous golf event in the world - match play, like golf is meant to
be played, not like the horribly boring stroke play events. If you don
´t love the Ryder, you are no golfer, it´s as simple as that - you may
be able to swing a club and hole a putt, but you are no golfer. F
