I just got back into town after traveling to NC to play in a
member/guest tournament with a good friend.
Format was the typical five 9 hole matches with there being a shoot
out between the winners of the various flights to determine the
overall winner. We finished third in our flight. The guys who won
our flight (and eventually finished 2nd overall) pretty much ran away
with our flight. They beat us 6-4 but they won other matches by 7-3
and 9-1 margins. That is pretty hard to overcome.
Mostly my partner carried me the whole weekend. I drove the ball
wonderfully. I haven't gone through the stats I kept yet but I would
expect that I hit 70%+ of the fairways. The problem was I hit very
few greens. I think there were a few issues:
1. I had taken a lesson a couple of days before and was working on
shortening my back swing. I had gotten WAAAY too long and the club
was getting closed at the top. The problem with the shorter back
swing was I just wasn't finishing and firing through the ball. Thus I
was leaving a lot of shots out to the right.
2. I had a hard time with the distances at this particular course.
The yardage would be, say 170, but it just LOOKED so much longer than
that. I'd play what the yardage looked like and I think my mind was
subconsciously trying to ease up on the longer club.
3. I suck.
Are those things the most fun or what??? My favorite part is my
money is no good..... :)
