What is it about golf? Now that I have decided to get into it, I am finding

Golf IMHO, is a game against self, sort of like pool. (I play pool and have
a table at home.) Been playing for 50 years now, am decent, but still like
to just play alone to keep honing and practicing. I now find that I'm going
out into the yard and practicing swinging without a ball, attempting to
achieve a little consistency in my swing. Will be going to the driving
range within the week, schedule permitting.
What is it that attracts/attracted you to golf? Give me some insight on
your ideas of what golf does for people.
Steve
For me, primarily, it is the camaraderie of being with your friends or
people who share your love for the game. Meeting new people, playing
with old friends. Hell -- my best friends are people who I have met
through this stupid newsgroup!
I really don't like playing alone. Sometimes, I'll get to the course
crazy early and they'll let me out as a single and I'll get around the
course in a couple of hours but most of the time I feel like I'm
hurrying. I'd much rather play in a twosome where you at least have
to pause and wait for the other guy to hit. If I want some solitary
exercise I'll go for a run.
To me, golf is about the other people on your group.
Other things I love:
* (As other people have said) That striped 4 iron to a back pin. I
tend not to enjoy crushing a drive as much as that perfect iron shot.
* A great up and down from nowhere.
* A clutch putt to halve the hole or win the match.
* There is a relaxation factor for me, letting my work stress and
other worries melt away, but that is not a big part of it.
