So, in your world, leftists are always right and conservatives are
always wrong.
You never did answer that point from the article I cited. Why is it
that
the family with a daughter had to find a private clinic to do knee
surgery on her? Could it be that the waiting time for care we've been
talking about is not and "urban myth" after all.
I am happy you are not afraid of crushing some numbers. Here:
1. How meaningful do you think anecdotal evidence is? What do you think
your single example proves? Have you ever wondered about the motives of
groups that use anecdotal evidence as the basis for most of their
arguments? Take your time.
2. Speaking of not answering questions, you seem to have forgotten
about
those UN stats (which are obviously more meaningful than anecdotal
evidence) where the US has the second highest per capita spending on
health care and yet millions have no coverage. Feel free to explain
your
position.
The girl in that story is not the only case. I've been hearing about
that situation in Canada and Great Britain for years. If it is not
life threatening, you wait. And wait. And wait.
More anecdotes? Data would be preferable, wouldn't it?
I would bet that the lion's share of innovations in the fields of
medical technologu and pharamcuticals have occurred thanks to US
doctors and scientists. The prices you pay for medications and
technology such as MRI pay for the R&D behind them.
The Nobel prize for the development of the MRI was shared by a Brit and
an American. Actually the prices you pay for medications subsidize the
much lower prices the drug companies can get for them in poor and third
world countries. Really a form of commercially operated socialism - the
rich subsidize the poor.
The other thing is that we do not have a true market economy working
in health care. The 800 pound gorilla is the federal govt. The result
in no competitive market forces to help keep prices under control.
Ifeel that the patients should be allowed to share in the savings if
they could find a better deal. For both private and federal care.
See above. It really isn't the government that is controlling drug
prices, it is the drug and insurance companies makig sure they have
profits to hand to shareholders. IWhy are they so scared by people
buying them in Canada?

You mentioned smoking. Very few educated and aware people smoke. The
same people who are struggling to make ends meet are probably also
smoking cigarettes. I never have. My wife has had one drag off one in
her life. Could be connected to the cancer rates. At the same time, I
don't favor prohibition. I'm not sure what the answer is.
