Nice anecdote, and that's a good list. Having met two of the five,
and knowing the reputation of the other three, I'd agree. But there
are many recently improved golfers in "RSG-land" as well. Bill-O and
Mike, whom I've played with recently, come to mind. We are all too
familiar with those here who speak of abilities or improvement and
fail to back it up. Others, like Bill-O and Mike, have backed it up
on more than one occasion at more than one event, and not just RSG
outings. You yourself applauded the fact in Mike's case. I guess Rob
just can't quite bring himself to that stage.

I see that your name is Ron and not Roy. I apologize for my
presumption.

I agree that one match play wouldn't be an accurate statistical
indicator between Rob and Mike.....but it would be interesting, and
profitable, if Mike gave Rob strokes.

I don't know why I would need to give him strokes. If he truly believes my index inflates my golf abilities, he should be interested in a nice, straight-up match.

But that's a match I can't imagine ever happening. I suppose if he wants to make the trip to Platteville to play a round, I might do it for the laughs of seeing him be eaten alive by my home course.

But to go out of my way to play him? What on earth for? Nothing I see here on RSG would suggest he'd be fun to play with. He's a blowhard who's really not very bright. And, yeah, I know your objection to that, but you only have to read his posts to reach that conclusion. Your posts are far superior to his, and it's hard to believe a PhD could produce what he does.

For some reason playing a match with me appears to be important to him, but I can't imagine why.

In the end, though, his opinion, ill-informed as it is, changes nothing about my skill level.

My applause for Dalecki was acknowledgement of having fine rounds in
adverse weather conditions, atypicial for RSG-NW. I have no doubt
that he's improved his game. His PB was a 74....so is mine, twice.
Still, those rounds didn't put me near a 7 digit.

It depends on the kind of course you play, slope and rating. A few years ago I played a round at University Ridge. Played the tips and shot something like 83. Because the slope and rating are so high from the tips (142, 73.2), it was roughly equivalent to shooting something like a 74 or 75 on my home course. I shot an 83 or so, my handicap dropped.

Conversely, a low score on a very easy course won't lower your handicap as much as you'd expect, if the slope and rating are low.

A few low scores mean nothing; you have to shoot more than a few low scores. It's the best 10 scores of the last 20 that count, and a couple really good scores aren't enough if the rest are lousy.

My index right now is 8.3 and it's going to go up as I'll drop a 4.8 differential from Indian Canyon. I've not played particularly well since early June, as I haven't golfed all that much (to prep for RSG-Ohio I spent an inordinate amount of time on my short game and putting as my swing is as it always has been, mediocre.).

But I just had a lesson and my pro found an issue with my swing (a sway, and not finishing the swing), and I expect the index will start to fall again. It's never stable, always moving up or down. That's the nature of the measure.

Mike posts all his scores or just the good ones, using back injury or
any other excuse as a reason to pick up, not finish the round,
discontinue scorekeeping, etc.

Why on earth do you care? I've been denigrated by you and the "professor" about my skillset--by two people who *do not know* how I can play, yet when others have indicated how I can play at events and so on, it seems not to matter.

Why is that? If I were a vanity handicapper, as your buddy the "professor" claims I am, then how on earth am I putting up the scores I do at RSG and other events?

Three rounds in the 70s at RSG-NW (including my par round); tied for first at RSG-Ohio, lost a scorecard playoff. There were 38 people who played the Sat morning round; no one shot lower. I suspect that if Mark hadn't had his back problems he'd have broken 80 no prob, but even then, I'd have come in 2nd out of 38 people.

When I consider what my game was like at the first and second RSG-Atlanta, I think I've come a long way. In fact, I might post some about that. There may be some higher handicappers who'd like to make the same journey I have, and might appreciate seeing what I learned along the way.

I don't shoot my index all the time. Only a moron--or the "professor"--would assume that's even possible. But I have my moments, about in proportion to what you'd expect someone of my index would be able to do.

I just know what I've seen and the list I offered is derived from
that. Perhaps if I played with Dalecki, I'd come to a different
conclusion, as other have. But....the likelihood of that is slimmer
than Pflum.

I still don't know why you care, though. Why do you?
