Oh for ***'s sake, Rob. Everything's changed.
Chris Bellomy wrote
We're a third world country in these respects:
How totally absurd. Try thinking for yourself for a change.
- Health care
What?!?! This is idiotic. The US invents almost all the new
treatments
and technologies associated with health cares. The rest of the
world
then leeches the information from the US, who gives it away.
Americans
pay more for health care because they do more. Trying a system like
we
have in Canada in the US would stop all that R&D cold, as well as
bankrupt the US. There is a big difference between a country with
300
million people and one with 30 million people. The stupidity of
universal health care is that it has to be paid for somehow...so
what
is
wrong with requiring that the people who receive the care pay for
it
to
the extent that they can?
- Infrastructure (hey to New Orleans and Minneapolis)
..want to talk Katrina, why has Mississippi pretty much recovered
despite more widespread and extensive damage and far less in
handouts
to
local govts?
- Debt (hey to Iraq)
Compared to who? Which nation is not heavily in debt? China? You
want
to
live like the Chinese? Most debt in the US is caused by handouts
and
being the only country in the world willing to defend trade routes.
IMHO, the US should cut back on both. No way there should be any US
troops in Italy, Germany or Japan, for example; none. These
countries
are wealthy enough to defend themselves, and if they choose not to
defend themselves, tough for them.
- Education
See above on who invents almost all health care technologies? This
applies for everything. People who want the best education in the
world
can get it. The fact is that EVERYONE has access to the whole
system
in
the US, unlike other countries, like Japan, UK, France, Germany.
- Income inequality
EVERYONE has a shot here. It's why poor people from all over the
world
come here. I guess there aren't any Mexican immigrants where you
live.
- Social immobility
Really? Sam Walton...who is he, and how did he get where he got?
Was
the
Gates family, as in Bill Gates, one of the richest in the world in
1970?
Why do poor people from all over the world flock to the US?
- Regressive taxation
Taxing income is regressive, I'll give you that, but all nations
tax
in
this manner.
- Civil liberties
Tell that to Muslims in France. Tell that to Christians in China.
Go
to
Mexico and advocate for illiegal immigrants from central america. I
recall some people with a bullhorn at Rumsfelds house in the wee
hours
of the morning. Try that at the home of the Canadian defense
minister!
Wake up. That was before.
Before what?
Before Bush and his gang of thugs fucked up America.
I guess you would know better than I. What I see is the US economy
booming.
Traditional jobs for low income people go begging because such people can
get
better jobs. Every restaurant has large banners indicating they waht to
hire
people. Education is booming as well. Both facilities and faculty have
improved dramatically, as well as access. Just about anyone who wants to
go to
college in the US can. The only negative in education that has grown is
called
"assessment"; the longest 4 letter word in the english language. Health
care is
vastly superior to that in Canada, and if it weren't for what the US
gives to
countries like Canada free of charge, I wonder where countries like
Canada
would be; probably stone age relative to the US instead of bronze age. I
have
much better health care available to me than you have to you, that's for
sure.
I agree that the US needs to stop being the world's policeman, but when
they
hint at not doing this, like a relatively recent withdrawl of troops from
Germany, the rest of the world WHIINES. Euros should have taken care of
ex
Yugoslavia and Euros and Africa should take care of Sudan, but they all
whine
that the US should do it. Canada should take care of it, IMHO. We have
the
resources. OF course we want the US to do it, and then call them
"militaristic".
The reality is the the US us better off than ever. Thus the far left's
big lie
could backfire, and that would be interesting; the Dems going the way of
the
Brit Whigs. Just consider the fact is the Dems took control of congress
because
they ran conservative candidates in midwestern and southeastern
districts.
Those reps are going to be hard pressed to explain the affiliation of
their
party leaders with loons like the DailyDose. IMHO, both Obama and Clinton
are
unelectable. Everyone's taxes will go up big time next year, to the tune
of
hundreds of dollars for even the most humble of taxpayers because the Dem
congress will not renew the Bush tax cuts...and that will manifest itself
in
people's mind in Feb.-Apr. 2008. The current congress has an approval
rating
less than 1/2 that of the current president. The Repubs no longer have
people
like Hastert and Frist as leaders; you'll be looking at people like
McConnell
and Giuliani. The Dems are stuck with Obama, Clinton, Pelosi and Reid...I
can
just see a politcal ad reviewing Pelosi's trip to Syria and Reid's real
estate
"investments"!
The big lie about how bad things are in the US is not only not taken
seriously
in the mainstream, but is becoming more and more exposed as a dumbass big
lie.
The worst part of it is that the president could claim that the situation
in
Iraq has been stabilized and bring home all US troops well before the
next
election, and it could well be that the situation is stabilized. At the
end of
the day, if I were certain Dem congresspeople in the midwest and
southeast, I'd
be making sure I have contigency plans just in case I don't win again in
'08.
The last act in the recent Congress, passing a bill that would restrict
welfare
to illegal immigrants is promptly declared defeated by the Dem congress
will
also make a great campaign ad!
Of course the burned out irrelevant hippies who operate some of these
retaroblogs will keep their blinders on, and the mainstream Dems will
continue
to follow them down the path to political extinction, and the Republicans
don't
really have to do anything but watch and enjoy! ...and you will keep
reading
them too...but you are in Canada..so as long as the US economy booms and
has a
great demand for Canadian raw resources, you can continue to elect
governments
that do things like give $1.3 billion to a Cree chief to do with as he
pleases,
but if the Dems pull it off and get elected the US economy will tank and
you
can blame your unemployment on an incompetent Tory Govt. and elect a Lib
Govt.
that will promptly make things worse and blame the Americans!
going well. The view from outside is entirely different.
It's like a rerun of the 1930's with Bush, the neocons
and America in place of Hitler, the Nazis and Germany.
The parallels are uncannily similar. Hitler gave the
Germans the people's car, the Volkwagen and an
extensive network of autobahnen. Bread and circuses
whilst he marched east and illegally attacked sovereign
countries to gain the resources which he needed. He
even came to power by taking advantage of a terrorist
event, the burning of the Reichstag. Enjoy the illusion
of prosperity while it lasts, but be prepared to answer
the question that the Germans faced after it was all
over. Why did you allow this man to perpetrate such
foul deeds in your name?
Alan.
