Re: Found one problem

And that is the driver. I play a Ping G2, Regular graphite shaft, 10
degree loft. I have an average drive distance in the 275ish range, with
long hits approaching 300. (Generally I play either a Titleist ProV1 or
Calloway HX Tour.)

I played last night, hit 9 GIR, shot 82 in about a 1-2 club wind, with two
three putt bogeys (Putting was way off last night).

However, I hit only two fairways, and one of those was a 3 wood where I
can't take driver on a hole. I went back through a bunch of my old
scorecards, and I found that I am averaging about 4 fairways a round. (A
lot of times I'm just off by a few feet, but I'm still in the rough.)

I generally have one of two problems. I either push it slightly on a
frozen rope, or I snap hook.

A Ping fitter was out to the range a couple weeks ago, and I tried a G5,
stiff shaft, 12 degree offset. I put 4 straight drives on the range to the
fence (About 275), and all but one were dead straight on my line.

Recent (last two months) swing change, I've moved the ball further left in
my stance (Even with the big toe on my left foot) and moved slightly
closer to the ball.

Any suggestions on drills to help with accuracy? Am I hitting too low a
loft? Too soft a shaft? Do I need to go to the higher loft, offset driver?

Only your instructor would know for sure. But....

I can't really authoritatively tell ya, but you sound a bit like
me.
The first thing I'd say is that you're probably seeing some benefit
from
the stiffer shaft. (Pause for MAT comment). Moving closer to the
ball CAN help with a snap hook, but I'd be surprised if it "fixed" it
all by itself. And there are about 5 other things to consider with a
hook. Moving the ball forward may merely be an attempt to fight
the hook as well. All of this though is mostly a bit "gimicky"
for something that is basically a swing flaw. I don't know for
sure, and I'd be interested in some of the club makers comments,
but the combination of factors you describe suggests you might
be cheating your hip turn, and possibly swinging a bit too much
with your "arms". That slight push probably comes when you
don't do a good hip turn AND tone down the arms. The rest of
the time you're compensating with arms.

Do you ever launch a beautifully straight drive on a line you
did not intend, especially to the right? I'm told this is a classic
problem of poor hip turn. How do you set your feet? Wide?
Do you "duck foot" a bit or are the straight on normal to the
swing line? When you have a really bad drive, do you ever
hit "fat"? How fat we talking?
