54 holes of golf in 23 hours.

It was clearly meant to be from the word go. Despite a dismal forecast
for Sunday (60% chance of rain with the possibility of thundershowers)
we got in two great rounds, including getting all 18 finished for our
second round which began at 5:00pm. And when we decided to squeeze in a
third round on Monday morning before I had to head back to Vancouver,
the second place we called got us out at the perfect time for us to
play, have a couple of beers afterwards and still let me make it back to
Vancouver in time to play hockey; hell, even the standard holiday
weekend highway nightmare never materialized. :-)

Stack and tilt is still working and man is it fun hitting a golf ball at
1400 ft plus. I hit a couple of drives about 300 and hit two 3-woods
over 270 yards (firm fairways help a lot too.. :-) ) It's going to need
more practice to really solidify it as the way I swing, but I'm making
such great contact when I do it right... ...and doing it right seems
easy.

I can't say I scored well, but I played pretty much dead level with my
cousin Keith, who's always been the better of us. After 54 holes, I was
one hole and three strokes up.

Given that Keith has "retired" at the age of 43 (at least for this
coming year), I can see a fair number of trips up the Coquihalla to
Kelowna this summer.

And to top it off, I'm playing tomorrow in a radio station tournament!

Life is good.

Going from the Coast to the Okanagan always seems to add about 15
yards to every shot. Which courses did you play up there? I've done
the Kelowna courses several times, and might try to do Kamloops next
time for some change. I thought Dunes was nice enough - sort of like
a better maintained Riverway.

We played Vintage Hills to warm up (a par 65 layout with excellent
conditioning near where my cousin lives), Gallagher's Canyon as the main
course and then we squeezed in a round at Ponderosa down in Peachland
(definitely a "B" course in terms of conditioning and amenities, but
with spectacular views of Lake Okanagan from well up the mountainside
among the -- what else? -- ponderosa pine trees).

Are the 1040 events any good? I was always tempted to play in one.

I can't speak for all of them, but the Morgan Creek event is *great*.
The course is (and was last year) in great condition, the greens are
diabolically fast and the tournament is very well organized and run. At
$109, it's basically $25-$30 more than a regular greens fee for the
chance at the prizes and a reasonable dinner (it was hamburgers or
chicken burgers or lamb burgers, but done very well).

The prices of the events vary quite a bit (I believe the next one is
only $69 at Meadow Gardens), so what you get out of it may vary too, but
my brother and I enjoyed it immensely.
