I have played at a couple of high-end courses with white ProV1 range
balls where I wondered the same thing.

But in normal courses, far more balls get buried than get stolen.
Every once in a while I find range balls on the course, pick them up,
and return them to the range. I figure kids probably picked them up.
Can you imagine a friend in your foursome pulling out a yellow striped
range ball to hit over a lake? Not many people have that type of
gall.
