As an aside, I was literally overwhelmed with these young military

the war, you really can't fault these excellent soldiers, sailors and
airmen/women in today's military. They are doing the job that they are
assigned in their usual excellent way. But these young people are not
the military that many of us remember from the 60's and 70's.
My brother is a Marine Colonel in Iraq. I was a USAF pilot in the
Vietnam era.
It is not obvious to me why a military that included draftees in the
Vietnam era deserved scorn while the all-volunteer military of today
deserves praise.
They are
more dedicated and professional in their demeanor, and they are as a
group, more intelligent than many of those past eras.
Volunteers tend to be like that. Also - civilians as a group are
better educated than in past eras.
