Which codec have you had the most success with for web viewing?
What are you using to create the video? Premiere?
I've been using the Photodex Producer software to assemble the
slideshow.
However, I can save the video as a MPG file (200MB) and then import
that into Premiere.
Y'know, I figured Premiere would give you more encoding options, but now
that I've opened it and seen what's available, you really can't do much more
with it in terms of encoding to a smaller file. About the only movie file
export option available is .avi (uncompressed), which would only be bigger,
so that sort of defeats the whole purpose.
I think you're missing something. Premiere will export in whatever
format you want... I'm not on a machine right now that has it
installed, but I've exported in MPG, AVI, MOV...
Remember, MPG and AVI are just file formats... i.e. the way the data is
layed out in the file... the real workhorse is the CODEC that is used.
Many CODECs will allow you to store both in AVI, WMV, and MPG formats.
