graphite shafts? I doubt they could sell them if that were true. It
might have been true 20 years ago when graphite first came out--their
torsional reliability was suspect-- but not since. Corey Pavin won
the US Open playing graphite shafts.
And I would bet your driver and 3w shafts are graphite.
Yes I am. You again have been marketed by the distance marketing
mongers. Most golfers realize that accuracy is more paramount with
irons because your trying to hit a target with only 5-10 yards of
allowed dispersion.....as opposed to a typical target with a driver
that is usually 30 yards wide (unless you're playing the US Open). 95%
of golfers still play with steel shafted irons despite many graphite
advances and marketing campaigns because steel is still a more stable
product in terms of durability, consistency of flex/torsion, longevity,
bang for the buck, accuaracy, and feel. Graphite shafts for irons main
claim to fame is distance (which don't help you much when you're in the
bunker/rough) and impact dampening. Steel isn't as paramount for
driver/fairway wood usage because the club approaches the ball at a
sweeping angle where irons are struck with a more descending blow that
produces a divot.
Haven't we been through this before? What's next?....another thrilling
debate on the Whippy?
Again you're in the minority....which is fine, but I would just point
out that the popular realism yet again trumps another one of your pipe
dream golf theories. I don't know what Corey played in the '95 US Open
(other than that Cleveland VAS 4 wood into the 72nd hole)...but might
there be a reason he's not still playing graphite irons and why haven't
even 10% of the pro tourneys (men & women) out there been won with
graphite shafted irons?
